It is with great honor that we announce the arrival of our newest release, a punishing EP crafted by a band Auris Apothecary has respected and desired to work with since our inception. MEDUSA are local heavyweights whose roster includes a plethora of the highest-caliber musicians unleashing an array of heavy anthems in every vein imaginable, from doom-influenced dirges and hymnal chants to horror-filled punk and stoner-rock riffing. The combination proves flawless, with a precision capable only from the hands of an experienced ensemble whose history together speaks volumes.
Presenting a step forward for Auris Apothecary, Divine Malice is a first for us on many fronts. It is our largest pressing yet with a total of 450 copies to be crafted, as well as the introduction of multiple format choices & editions. It is also one of the first times we have commissioned a local artist to craft the artwork, a concept which we intend to continue to expand the ever-evolving aesthetic of Auris Apothecary.
While the test pressing version is no longer available for sale, the cassette edition of Divine Malice is currently available for purchase in the PHARMACY, with the official LP version coming in the near future.
Black Mass XXI went off without a hitch, and we are pleased to announce that we commissioned two local videographers to capture the event in stunning action & detail. Footage is in the process of being edited, and will be published on our youTube channel in the coming weeks. AAX-001 : Unholy Triforce - the
Ghost House EP
Auris Apothecary is extraordinarily excited to announce that today marks the 4th Anniversary since the pressing of our first release, the Ghost House EP by UNHOLY TRIFORCE. As we prepare to fulfill our first 99 releases by the end of the calendar year, we wish to thank those that have supported us through our infancy by means of purchasing releases, writing kind words about our creations, or attending our local Black Mass events. Our enterprise operates as a cyclic organism, only growing and blooming through interaction with others who desire to share new experiences. It is a process we hope continues well into the future...
Getting right to it, we are holding a PRE-ORDER for the 2nd pressing of AAX-M11, our logo t-shirt. This new edition is a visual inversion of our first pressing in every detail, beginning at non-V-neck black shirts with infinite-lasting white discharge printing. This is a silkscreen process which essentially bleaches out the artwork as opposed to using ink on top of the fabric, guaranteeing a comfortable print that will never fade with repeated washes. The shirt is finished off with our classic motto on the back, an addition which has proven most socially-inflammatory.

We also just finished up our Sampler #3 featuring 12 tracks from the 2013 calendar year releases. The first pressing is limited to 150 copies of 5" CDr's inside laser-printed white paper sleeves. Each copy contains a full-page insert as well as a copy of our new 2013 catalog.
BUT THERE'S MORE!
An undisclosed amount of copies will contain a bonus 13th track lathe-cut
into the bottom of the disc, an ominous 30 second preview of UNHOLY
TRIFORCE's upcoming 17" lathe cut Transcryptions, set to be
released on Halloween 2013. These copies, once sealed, will be unknown to
both us and the audience, serving as a "golden ticket" opportunity to a
select group of individuals to preview a most exclusive track. Goodspeed

PS: For our 5th Anniversary, we are creating the most expansive release we have ever conceived. AAX-100 will be limited to 100 copies, but even that number can't contain what is planned.
12.31.12 - Apocalypse averted, we carry on...
Though originally slated for release December 21st of this year, we delayed the final release until today, the last of the calendar year 2012 CE both in the spirit of annual death/rebirth and to ensure the perfection of each minor detail. This release is an immense honor for us as its influence & significance within the avant-garde community cannot be overstated.
Without further ado, Auris Apothecary humbly presents AAX-101, WILLIAM BASINSKI's classic and prophetic debut album Shortwavemusic. This 30th Anniversary limited edition has been recorded onto recycled reels as an homage to the original loop format and includes a deluxe 8-panel transparent booklet with never-before-seen art from the artist's own hand. A truly elegant manifestation of a timeless piece of tape music history.

10.31.12 - Midnight on All Hallow's Eve... It is with immense excitement that we
announce the Halloween 2012 batch of releases, each demonstrating the
infinite processes of creating blackened noise, dissonant frequencies and
scathing lyrical prowess. 7 releases have been crafted across 6 different
mediums, from candles and lathe cuts to reel tape and 1" buttons, as well
as our first CDr since 2010! A varied sonic and visual assault for the
senses, the Halloween 2012 batch is a multi-tiered nail in the coffin in
our vast efforts to promote the darkness of the underground.

One last thing. We are honored to have the
privilege of a very special release coming this year on December 21st,
2012 CE. Won't say too much, but it's the 30th Anniversary on reel to reel
tape from one of avant-garde's most atmospheric innovators...
Before we go any further, a notice to all customers: The
month of October has been a devastating example of a pre-Halloween hex for
Auris Apothecary, with nearly every step of the creative process being
obstructed by outside forces. Missing shipments containing wax sealing
materials, haunted tape duplicators, delayed audio masters and a router
that broke an hour into the process have all been hindrances that set us
back in time, labor and money. Although we are mostly completed with all
production on the releases, we wish to ensure that each and every customer
receives their package at the same time. DUE TO THIS, shipment of all
orders will be delayed at least 7 days from today to guarantee the
fulfillment of every customer's order in a timely manner. We want to
stress that this is not a pre-order! One cannot dabble in
the destructive arts without paying some karmic price, and we hope that
everyone understands this decision was necessary. Now then...

BLACK MASS XVIII last night was a rousing success in all regards. Each
artist was at the top of their game in their performances, with poignant
sets that were furthered in their vision by the projections enveloping
them. The persistent droning background sounds of multiple Locked Groove
Lathe Plates being spun on separate turntables at different speeds with
varying volumes made for what amounted to either a meditative harmony or a
jarring nightmare of sounds. The combinations were/are endless...

09.13.12 - With the passing over of the Summer season, a proclamation of Autumnal rebirth!
First and foremost, we are pleased to announce our premiere into the world of lathe-cutting with the imminent arrival of the "Locked Groove Lathe Plate Series," outlined below. They are set to arrive on September 27th, 2012 CE.
Second, we are elated to announce the
return of Black Mass events. Last month was our 17th installment, and the
introduction of visual projections for each artist as well as a physical
ticket from the event. Both are traditions which will continue throughout
the existence of Black Mass.
Black Mass XVIII is quickly approaching, and will serve as the release
night for the "Locked Groove Lathe Plate Series" above. There will be an
interactive exhibit that will be taking place between performances to
allow participants to interact with copies of the locked grooves in order
to encourage understanding and to serve as a preview to the sounds

04.15.12 - Late to our own release date...
Although officially released on Friday, April 13th, 2012, we are pleased
to present the 2 newest offerings from Auris Apothecary for purchase
online. Two versions of local Bloomington heaviness, twisted and deformed
into a fringe version of the artists' normal output, these two releases
are excellent examples of what the local scene has been brewing for years.
One presents a lost take of saturated, droning noise from
RCBNNN, the
noise-based moniker to one of Bloomington's most established forces of
crushing sounds. The other is an ultra-brief snapshot into the minds of
local weirdo punkers
HUMANS,
put onto floppy disk and bitcrushed for absolutely appropriate fidelity.

The release show at MAGNETIC SOUTH on April 12th was a smashing success, bringing together both artists plus local drum&tapes duo CHARNEL HOUSE. Many thanks go out to the MAGNETIC SOUTH crew for their space and MIKE of RACEBANNON for setting the whole deal up. A video of RACEBANNON's noisy intro to their set has been edited and included below. It was a total departure from their normal sounds, so enjoy this rare & special look into the live manifestation of RCBNNN. |

*A note: Brainwave Saturation presents the first of many aspects for both Auris Apothecary and the artists involved. It is the first collaborative effort that Auris Apothecary has released between 2 established artists, each offering their own tones & variations to create an organic mix of sounds. It is also the introduction of AGAKUS to the Auris Apothecary family, whose previous work in HYMNAL BRUISE and future efforts (to be released) represent wholly our aesthetic and musical mindset. Lastly, Brainwave Saturation contains the first vocal deliverings of DANTE AUGUSTUS SCARLATTI, buried beneath a destructive blend of distortion and reverb. All are subtleties that we felt were worth mentioning.

screen-printed a small batch of t-shirts for distribution to close friends
and accomplices. They are two most excellent designs that perfectly
commemorate the ritualistic, eerie nature of his astounding last

are only available in this package, which includes a copy of Brainwave
Saturation in your choice of the blue or orange color scheme.

COMING LATER : Label-mate HOU finally returns with a continuation of relaxing, rhythmic electronic music written many eras ago and culminating the early years of his work. Titled Serene Summation of Years Past, his new cassette will be arriving in tandem with label-owner PENDRA GON, who makes a slow move into darker terrritories with his new tape, The Fourest Album. Tentatively set for early April.

With the cooling of the winds and death of organic material (in the Northern Hemisphere) comes the rebirth of old memories and warming fires. We have attempted to capture that essence in our newest Seasonal Candle for Winter 2011 CE.
Hand-dyed, poured and smashed, this wax creation is made up of white, subtle greys and varying shades of blue to match the washed-out landscapes of Midwestern winters. A warm vanilla blends into the classic scent of spiced apple to enrich your environment aromatically in addition to aesthetically.

Auris Apothecary is pleased to finally present the devastating new anti-cassette from MIKE IX WILLIAMS, the lead singer of legendary band EYEHATEGOD. In the works for over a year, Glass Torn and War Shortage : The Purposeful Poisoning of a Shardless Society is a physical manifestation of the dangerous and intimidating nature of MIKE IX's artistic vision, capturing perfectly the essence of destruction that his legacy is so well known for.
As with all anti-cassette releases, no digital downloads or streams are available for preview purposes save for the single excerpt found on our most recent cassette SAMPLER #2. Anti-cassettes are designed to be interacted with, only capable of proclaiming their message after a solution has been found to play back the audio signals. 8 new releases have been crafted since the last update, and this is quite possibly the largest batch we've ever done.
The assortment of packaging is varied in all facets ranging from age, texture and organicness to print methods, concepts and more : velvet pouches, space documents, sunflower leaves, metal wire, 111 year old paper, obsidian, cases from 1987, magical seeds, scouring pads, recycled tapes and more...
Once again they aim to represent a diverse slice of the local Bloomington, Indiana musical culture as well as two artists located in Central America and Europe. The individual release pages can be accessed through the column on the left or the links below.

06.05.11 - Good news is best served thrice.
To
begin, welcome to the newest incarnation of the Auris Apothecary website
(version 3.0). Maximum minimalism.
Things have shuffled around a bit, pages have been renamed, content
organized more effectively, etc. Please take some time to reacquaint
yourself with the new environment.
Second, there is
a new section to the Auris Apothecary online entity known as the
MARKETPLACE.
Utilizing the highly-efficient system that Bandcamp has provided, a
continuously-expanding archive has been created whose purpose is twofold:
- It serves as an online library for streaming entire albums from SOLD OUT
or OUT OF PRINT releases which were previously available as free
downloads.
- It provides a digital storefront through which to download many of our releases with all artwork and packaging scans included. Downloads range from a "name your own price" with no minimum to a few dollars to help invest in the future reprinting of select titles on new formats in larger quantities.
The MARKETPLACE can be accessed through the navigation at the top or HERE.
Last but not least, we are extroadinarily pleased to announce the first of many in a series which will continue for eternity:
Transferred directly from the NSF files found inside all NES cartridges, Auris Apothecary has captured the soundtracks of childhood memories and epic adventures onto glorious analog from what we consider to be the finest video game console ever invented. Featuring classic titles such as The Legend of Zelda, Mega Man, Castlevania and Tetris, the series will highlight classics from all genres and styles through an identical aesthetic of packaging minimalism. Expect many more in the future...

Two BLACK MASS events have been held, with one being a special showcase of Auris Apothecary artists and the other being the CD/Tape release show for the debut boxset from HAIL ARCHITEUTHIS! Ben Myers was kind enough to record the audio from BLACK MASS VI, the Auris Apothecary showcase, and he uploaded the files individually by artist to Archive.org. These recordings represent a special moment for DANTE AUGUSTUS SCARLATTI, DESERTER, ERIC KNIPSTINE and PENDRA GON as it was their first live performances. Both live sets of HUMANS and HAIL ARCHITEUTHIS! are also included.

Though originally slated for AAX-012, The History of England C30 has been postponed to a later date. In its place is a melodic gem recorded nearly 4 years ago by Auris artist THE GENTLEMEN'S BUTCHER. Although his music will be released for the first time in the coming future, his recording career has already come to an end. 12.14.09 - Just as winter has been slowly but surely approaching, many things have happened under the radar of the website in the past few months.
Two BLACK MASS's have been held, with one being the debut of UNHOLY TRIFORCE and the other bringing local friends ROB FUNKHOUSER and HUMANS together with the doom-laden riffs of Indianapolis-based SLEEPBRINGER. ALSO: Auris Apothecary has officially released our AAX-MXX series of merchandise. Following in the footsteps of our audio releases, each item is hand-numbered out of a limited edition. Future items will be varied and unique in all facets, ranging from artistic creations to useful collectables.
We are pleased to present AAX-M02: Matchbooks and AAX-M03: Seasonal Candles [Autumn]. Though only announced to the public, the candles are long-gone and sold out for this season. Fear not, however, as the Winter version will be appearing in the coming months in a larger quantity. Matchbooks are free with any purchase or can be found locally in Bloomington at select locations.

09.20.09 - Auris Apothecary has completed its 10th release at the closing of the Summer season 2009. Many things to come as a new chapter begins and Autumn starts to take hold of the Midwest...

With lo-fi vocals screeching overhead, a crunching distorted guitar weaves in and out of sanity with slimy bass riffage that grinds beside the chaos of the drums that never seem to let up. Housed in an elaborate packaging of artifact-esque styling, Herald...promises to be an awe-inspiring release both visually and audibly.
[AAX-XXX] Eric Knipstine of ALEXANDER THE GREAT will be releasing solo organ performances of JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH pieces on the vintage home organs of friends and family.
[AAX-XXX] Scalliwags - Spring of 1938 EP [C22] - 3 tracks of lo-fi basement recordings of acoustic guitar-driven midwestern folk anthems accompanied with trumpet, bass, drums and female vocals. Housed in a canvas-sleeve with full color iron-on artwork and pearl snaps.
09.06.09 - The ABOUT and PHARMACY pages have been improved and updated to include our newest archival information and communication mediums. Also, a brand new distro item from CHARNEL HOUSE has been added to the Pharmacy. A 6 track cassette of malevolent intentions, it's selling for the insanely low price of only $4 shipped! 08.23.09 - AAX-009 is now in stores and available online at the Pharmacy! The release show went off without a hitch and was a pleasure to be had by all.

08.17.09 - AAX-008 is officially out! Pendra Gon's debut double EP is a visually and audibly pleasing dose of electronic rhythms, designed to throw you off path on Idioticon and lull you to rest on Sleepalong. It's available for purchase on the Pharmacy page and locally at TD's CD's & LP's and Landlocked. The release page has been added, so check it out!
To those of you in Bloomington, don't forget! August 19th marks the debut of Spade and Archer both live and in recorded form! Head out to Bear's place to pick up a copy of his CD and spend a night listening to great music.
08.13.09 - With the release of AAX-008 quickly approaching, Auris Apothecary is proud to also present the imminent arrival of AAX-009! Titled Sullo Scaffale, it is the genre-bending debut album from artist Spade and Archer [S. McNiece], known for his varying background of musical knowledge and prowess on the drum sets of many a Bloomington band. Sullo Scaffale provides an ever-changing palette which branches from spastic indie rock through rhythmically-pulsing trip-hop, all packaged on a 3" cd with three colorful variations. Set to be released on August 19th, it is the first Auris Apothecary release to also have a show!
08.05.09 - August 16th marks the release of AAX-008, the debut double EP from Pendra Gon! Comprised of two separate albums in a single package, Pendra Gon's Idioticon is an 8-bit-esque journey through pixelated landscapes, while Sleepalong lulls the listener into a calming trance. Housed in a double-sided colored acetate frame, it is a vivid dualistic approach to electronic music.
07.23.09 - DAS's Nature in a Jar #1 is officially in stores and copies are available as always on the Pharmacy page. Many new things on the horizon for Auris Apothecary as Summer hits the midway point. Autumn will be seeing the introduction of the NES-inspired electronic music of new artist Pendragon as well as a an eclectic debut album from Spade and Archer [S. McNiece]. In the meantime, be sure to head out to local record stores to pick up copies of all of our in-print titles!
07.17.09 - AAX-006 has arrived! HOU's Reticulating Inner Shade is now available for purchase in local Bloomington record stores and on the Pharmacy page! Dante Augustus Scarlatti's Nature in a Jar #1 is imminently upon us and will be released as AAX-007 on July 19th, 2009 CE. The release pages have been added, so check them out!
07.13.09 - Today marks an important milestone for Hail Architeuthis! as they return to the studio to master their debut full length, due out in Autumn of 2009. In honor of this accomplishment, Hail! has decided to offer their EP as a free download which includes a 320KB rip of the music and high-resolution scans of the artwork. It can be found on the AAX-005 page or right HERE.
07.05.09 - Things have been progressing smoothly for Dante Augustus Scarlatti [DAS] as he prepares to release his second album to the world: Nature in a Jar. It is the first in a 5 part series cataloging field, forest, lake and other recordings of natural environments. Recorded on reel to reel tape, it is packaged in a recycled spice jar which includes natural specimens from the recording location. It is an ultra-limited release with only 15 copies being meticulously made. Get excited for this, and be on the lookout for the rest of the series coming in the future!
07.03.09 - AAX-006 is quickly approaching completion! Created by the artist known as HOU, the album is titled Reticulating Inner Shade and features a full length worth of ambient electronic music. Intriguing, beautiful melodies drift in and out of consciousness while touches of abstractions lure the listener back to this realm. Reticulating Inner Shade by HOU will be available for purchase on it's official release date of July 17th, 2009 CE.
