10 years ago, Dante Augustus Scarlatti released “Ameritheism” as a 13-track audio/visual manifesto outlining the fallacies of the American political enterprise, as well as the insidious bond between religion and right-wing discourse. Merely 2 years later, an historic election resulted in the fast-tracking of Ameritheist policies through a new administration, kicking off a 4-year cycle of rampant corruption, regressive executive orders, fraudulent judiciary installments, and a near-endless stream of outright flagrance for democratic norms.
"This second chapter of Ameritheism was started at the beginning of that period, with the intention of documenting and dissecting the topics of current significance. It quickly became untenable due to the sheer amount of disregard and destructive rulings unfolding at a seemingly increasing pace. Protests. Pandemic. Profiteering. Post-Truth. Each day worst than the last, and like déjà vu, we’re here again.
What fresh hell will tomorrow bring?" - DAS
There's a lot of overlap with the original Ameritheism album in terms of sounds - ultra-short bursts of epic punk/metal intensity filled with vitriolic soapbox prose. But there's also an evolution at play here that increases the production value into a tighter, more focused attack. Opting for the sounds of "real" drums vs. the chaotic, triggered beats of the first outing, as well as writing and recording the whole album on an acoustic guitar, "New Administration" has a seething agression to it that feels like a concentrated beam of disgust directed squarely at the purveyors of political disfunction. From a recording of the national anthem and cheering crowds at fascist rallies to the screams of society collapsing, the five tracks on this EP are brief but poignant in their theatricality at highlighting the absurdity and destruction of our current timeline.
